Native reforestation to improve farming landscapes in Brazil
The Forest Farmers Project aims to support the restoration of degraded areas in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado biomes, and is implemented by NatureCo, supported by Nestlé.
In its initial phase, supported by Nestle, the project seeks to restore approximately 4,000 hectares through the planting of around 6 million native trees.
The project will be implemented in Nestlé’s supply chain and sourcing landscapes in the state of Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo, and southern Bahia, Brazil.
The project aims to generate important benefits to the environment and the local community with reforestation, especially around springs and close to streams and rivers.
Verified Carbon
Standard (VCS)
The project plans to be certified under Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) managed by Verra, an international organisation that certifies carbon emission reduction and removal projects.

Nestlé supports financing of the project as part of Nestlé’s Global Reforestation Program (GRP).
The program contributes to Nestlé’s Net Zero Roadmap and
the reforestation and restoration of natural ecosystems in
Nestlé’s supply chain and sourcing landscapes at scale.
GRP projects are located in areas connected to where Nestlé’s key ingredients are produced, and prioritizes countries and regions where there is a high potential and need for restoration.
The selected projects are designed to have positive long-term impacts on people, nature and climate.

Help regenerate degraded areas
Help regenerate degraded areas in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado biomes in the state of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Bahia.
Water retention and soil health
Contribute to water retention, soil health, biodiversity habitat, through tree stablishment in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
Mitigating the effects of climate change
Contribute to climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration by native trees.
Conformity with
the Forest Code
Supporting landholders in meeting legal requirements (Legally Protected Permanent Preservation Areas and Legal Reserve) where applicable, to improve environmental credibility, access to credit, and market opportunities.
Social and economic value
Contribute to economic growth with the generation of jobs and income opportunities for rural communities and the region.
